Sign Up for Summer Art Classes in the Canyons
The City of Glendale is holding summer art and recreation classes at the Chevy Chase Library and at Glenoaks Park.
The last day to register is this Friday, June 15th, by 10am.
Some of the class offerings include:
FOR YOUNGER KIDS:
Gymnastics, ages 5-9, Tuesdays 4-4:45 p.m.
Elementary Tap Dance, ages 4-7, Tuesdays, 5-5:45 p.m.
Ballet, ages 3-5, Tuesdays, 6-6:45 p.m.
FOR OLDER KIDS:
Basic Drawing, ages 6-12 (6 weeks), Thursdays, 5-6 p.m.
Fine Arts Camp, ages 5-12, August 13-17, half days and/or full days available
FOR FAMILIES TOGETHER:
Parent & Child Art, working together, ages 2-5, Mondays 4-5 p.m.
Family Music Night, birth to 5 years, Thursdays 6:45-7:15

Pizza and Holiday Caroling at the Chevy Chase Library
Come in from the cold, share some holiday music and take a night off from cooking! Join your neighbors and friends for a Holiday Caroling & Potluck Wednesday night, Dec. 21, from 6-8 p.m. at the Chevy Chase Library. The Chevy Chase Estates Association will supply the pizza and hot drinks, and side dishes, salads or desserts are welcome to help balance our potluck. We'll start with dinner and holiday stories, then serenade our brave firefighters next door with some holiday carols. Finally, we'll come back to the library for dessert and crafts, or just visiting with neighbors and friends. All ages (and singing abilities) are welcome.
For those of us with school kids in Glendale Unified, this is the last day of school before winter night, so there won't be any homework, and the kids can sleep in the next day. So, come join the fun and stock up on those books and DVDs for Winter Break!

Come one, come all for a little summertime magic right in the neighborhood. Kids and adults of all ages welcome. Thanks to the Chevy Chase Estates Association for sponsoring this fun event so all can enjoy it FREE of charge.
Valentine’s Traveling Nature Class Saturday, Aug. 20th at 3:30 Come see--or in some cases, pet and hold--reptiles, amphibians, insects and more! This fabulous and FREE show educates and entertains animal-lovers of all ages.
Also, don't forget to sign up for the summer reading program at Chevy Chase Library. You can pre-order your book selections from throughout the Glendale and Pasadena library systems online at http://catalog.glendalepubliclibrary.org and then ask that they be sent to the Chevy Chase branch. There's no quicker or greener way to keep up with your reading. Routing your books to Chevy Chase provides more accurate circulation numbers for our area than routing them to another branch or the Central Library for pickup. The library uses our branch's relatively low circulation numbers to suggest we're not using the system that much and that we don't need a library here. So please route your books to Chevy Chase!
The Chevy Chase branch is open to check out books on Wednesdays from 2-8 and Saturdays 12-5. You worked hard to keep it open. Now it's time to enjoy it!!
Great News: Chevy Chase Library Saved
In response to the outpouring of emails, petitions signatures, and letters, the Glendale City Council has decided to keep the Chevy Chase Library open, and to not transfer it to the Dept. of Community Services and Parks!!! This is GREAT news and a powerful testament to what can be accomplished when we make our voices heard.
Many of the Library advocates are now shifting modes and instead of asking the City Council to "SAVE OUR LIBRARY" plan to express their thanks - both in letters and in person. The City Council often only hears protests, and we want them to hear the positive side of their decisions.
If you'd like, feel free to write to the Mayor and the City Council and thank them for preserving our library. At issue still, is Chevy Chase Library's dearth of books and library-sponsored programs. The Mayor and Council are working hard to find ways to fund this. Please thank them for their efforts and express your deep hope that this can happen!!

The Chevy Chase Library Needs Your Help
The Chevy Chase Community Library may soon cease to exist. Despite promises to make improvements to our library and update its collection, a proposal to transfer it to the Community Services and Parks department and provide “minimal library services” is now being considered by the City Council. This will spell the end of our community library.

Chevy Chase Library News and Events
Some of you may have seen in the Glendale News-Press on the 12th that Library Director Cindy Cleary is recommending that Parks and Recreation take over the Chevy Chase Library, with the idea that it would become a community center for classes and other activities. Its status as a library would be in question. Rest assured that both the Chevy Chase Library Volunteers and the Chevy Chase Estates Association are working on drafting responses to this proposal. For the time being, the Volunteers will continue to present programs, as always. See what's coming up this weekend and beyond:
