GOCHA Annual Meeting (Virtual) Happening September 9th, 2020

Please join us for the GOCHA Annual Meeting on Wednesday, September 9th, at 7:30 PM.  Due to LA County health restrictions and for the safety of all our canyon residents, this will be a Zoom meeting so please use the link below to join us.   

We are facing a grave issue that concerns every member of our canyon community, namely, the proposal to build a power plant that would burn landfill gas less than a mile from our  neighborhood.  Two Glenoaks Canyon residents, Jackie Gish and Jack Walworth, will discuss the impact of this proposal as well as provide information on a safer, cleaner alternative.  Your input on this project is essential!  We hope you will use the information you learn from this presentation to send in your  comment on the Draft Environmental Impact Report for the proposed Biogas Power Plant to Mr. Erik Krause, Deputy Director of Community Development,  City of Glendale, 633 East Broadway, Room 103, Glendale, CA 91206-4386 or you can email him at ekrause@glendaleca.gov . The public comment period ends at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, September 30th.

GOCHA Mourns the Loss of One of Our Longtime Residents and GOCHA Board Member

The GOCHA Board is very sorry to inform you that our neighbor, Gerry Rankin, passed away recently after battling leukemia, colon cancer and a broken hip. Most of you will recognize him as the kind, gentle, and friendly neighbor who walked his cocker spaniel, Carter, around the park or up on the fire roads.  As a lifelong Glenoaks Canyon resident, Gerry invested much of his free time and energy into the canyon: delivering the ECHO, tirelessly investigating new construction in the canyon which he reported back to the Homeowner's  Board where code or permits were being side-stepped. He also worked to defeat various Landfill concerns such as the proposal to the 2015 expansion plan for the landfill and the current proposal to burn off gas on the landfill site.  He attended Occidental College and U.C. Berkeley and worked at U.S. Customs near the Los Angeles Port. He is survived by his wife, Mary, his daughters, Martha and Karen, their spouses, and two grandchildren. 

Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted

Going to college next year? If so, you can apply for the GOCHA Annual Scholarship.

The homeowners association will award a $400 scholarship to a graduating high school senior who will attend a post-secondary institution in the academic year following graduation. To be eligible, an applicant must live in Glenoaks Canyon, and at least one member of the household must belong to GOCHA. The application is available at glenoakscanyon.org/annual-scholarship or by contacting Marie Freeman at (818-500-1828). Applications must be submitted by May 1, 2020. The GOCHA Scholarship Committee will base their selection on merit and service and will announce the recipient in June, 2020.

2019 Membership Drive Now Under Way

The Glenoaks Canyon Homeowner’s Association depends on the generosity of the community to be able to provide the services and contributions that help make our canyon great. Annual funds go towards things that are important to the community including our Disaster Preparedness Program, the fight agains the Scholl Canyon Landfill, the Pancake breakfast, Dog Parade, and many other things that help preserve the specialness of the neighborhood.

Annual Pancake Breakfast

Come one, come all. Tomorrow (Saturday) is the annual GOCHA Pancake Breakfast. If you haven't been before, its a great way to get a free breakfast, but more importantly, a fantastic way to meet your neighbors. Our time-honored griddle masters will be there turning out great pancakes and sausages. There will be coffee, juice, milk and other tasty treats. Hope to see you there.
