Rabid Bat Advisory
We have been notified by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, that a bat tested positive for rabies near the Glen Oaks/Fair Oaks Community of Glendale. The bat was reported on August 30, 2019.

Although bats are the major animal species that carry rabies in Los Angeles County, only a very small percentage (1-2%) of bats in nature have rabies. Every year bats are tested positive for rabies throughout Los Angeles County. Please see: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/vet/rabiesmap2019.htm

Important Public Hearing Regarding Scholl Canyon Landfill
On Wednesday, March 21st at 5:00 PM, the Glendale Planning Commission will be hearing oral comments and will be voting whether to approve the Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) for the Biogas Renewable Generation Project (Power Plant) at the Scholl Canyon Landfill. Meeting location is 633 E. Broadway, Room 105, in Glendale.
What this means is the City is trying to fast track the installation of a new power generating system on top of our landfill without a full and proper analysis of environmental hazards. An Environmental Impact Report (EIR) would more fully examine these hazards and would also provide alternatives solutions. GOCHA is calling for a full EIR report. Be advised that if this MND is approved on Wednesday, the power plant will be built on the landfill.
It is important that we get a big turnout for this very important meeting. We need the city to hear us.

Informational Meeting - Glenoaks Elementary Traffic Concerns
Good evening fellow canyon residents. On Wednesday, February 28th at 6:30pm, there will be an informational meeting at the Glenoaks Elementary School Auditorium to discuss traffic concerns around the school and more specifically at the corner of Glenoaks Blvd. and Waltonia Dr. The city will listen to resident input and lay out the several options they are considering to address the traffic issues during school pick-up and drop-off.

Safety Alert: Kidde Fire Extinguisher Recall
Watching the devastating fires that have been ravaging Southern California over the last month is a constant reminder of how vigilant we must be in our beautiful canyon. Fire safety is of the utmost importance to all of us.
That is why GOCHA wants to alert you to a massive recall on Kidde fire extinguishers. This recall affects almost 38 million fire extinguishers manufactured between 1973 and 2017. The fire extinguishers can become clogged or require excessive force to discharge and can fail to activate during a fire emergency. In addition, the nozzle can detach with enough force to pose an impact hazard.

Please check to see if you need to replace your fire extinguishers. If you ever need them, you want to know that they are working.

Emergency Water Barrels Available for Canyon Residents
Isabelle Meyer, who heads up our canyon's Disaster Preparedness program, has arranged a special offer for canyon residents. 55 gallon emergency water barrels will help you prepare for a natural disaster by providing enough clean drinking water for a family of four for 10 days. The barrels come with everything you need including the barrel, a pump, and the treatment drops that will allow you to store water for up to five years (after five years, just dump the water out and refill and retreat the new water for another five years).
Isabelle has been kind enough to arrange the sale and delivery to the canyon of 50 of these barrels so if you are interested, they will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Each barrel is selling for $82.50.

Tonight is National Night Out
Come out and join your neighbors and the entire country as we celebrate the annual National Night Out. Like last year, come on down to the Joe Bridges Clubhouse at Glenoaks Park from 6pm - 7:30pm and celebrate the evening with our canyon residents, artists, designers, collectors, and hobbyists. Refreshments will be served while they last and there will be a succulent plant swap along with a raffle supporting both local businesses and your neighborhood watch. It should be a fun night for everyone.

Small brush fire quickly extinguished near Canyon
According to the Glendale News-Press, a small brush fire started on Saturday afternoon along the hillside along the eastbound 134 and northbound 2 around 2:15pm. LA Fire department was dispatched and the fire was quickly put out. The fire burned about a quarter acre.
Its that time of year again. Everyone please be vigilant. Lots of dry brush and high winds this time of year.

National Night Out and Art Show - Tuesday August 6th
Come join your neighbors and spend the evening under the stars at Glenoaks Park.
