This is a reminder that the Annual Meeting for the Glenoaks Canyon Homeowner's Association (GOCHA) will be held on:

The Canyon's Disaster Preparedness Program Come listen to Isabel Meyer discuss the details of the Canyon's Disaster Preparedness Program. The Glendale Fire Department and Glendale Police Department will also be present to discuss how their efforts will dovetail with the Canyon's in the event of a fire or natural disaster.

The Scholl Canyon Landfill City Manager Scott Ochoa and Council Member Vartan Gharpetian have graciously offered to speak at our meeting to share with us the current status of affairs with the landfill.

Eagle Rock Community Garden Plant Sale and Open House

Communities United to Stop Scholl Dump Expansion is holding a press conference tomorrow, Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 9:00am. The event will be at the Eagle Rock Rec Center (east of the playground).

Even though speaking roles are strictly limited to 4 newsworthy leaders at this event, your PARTICIPATION as a conscientious community stakeholder making visible your opposition to the expansion of the Scholl Dump is extremely important.

Attire: WEAR BLUE, dress appropriately for 70 degrees, bring a dust/particulate mask for nose and mouth.

Parking: At Eagle Rock Rec Ctr parking lot OR along Eagle Vista.

Duration of event: 30 minutes

The message of the event is END, DON'T EXTEND THE DUMP. TAKE DUMP EXPANSION OFF THE TABLE.

Dump Dangers Informational Meeting Monday 11/9

Please join us for an informational meeting to learn about concerns Dr. Clarence Hall, Geologist and UCLA Professor Emeritus, has about the Scholl Canyon Landfill, its possible expansion and the EIR report that is slated to go before Glendale City Council for approval this coming January.

Is the landfill built on solid granite?

Are all the earthquake faults included in the EIR? 

Are the barriers that collect toxic waste being monitored regularly?

These questions and more will be discussed at this meeting Monday, November 9th at 7:00pm at the Joe Bridges Clubhouse.

Mayor Najarian Addresses Canyon Residents at GOCHA Annual Meeting

On Wednesday, September 16th, Mayor Ara Najarian addressed a lively crowd of Glenoaks Canyon residents at the GOCHA annual meeting held at the Joe Bridges Clubhouse. The mayor talked about the growth in Downtown Glendale and how the city council has focused on the downtown area so that they could limit the growth in the hillside communities like Glenoaks Canyon.

Najarian went on to say that there will be 4,000 new apartment units available in downtown over the next twelve months. With that will come new restaurants and nightlife. The downtown region is flourishing although there is concern about additional traffic that will impact the area. There is also concern that the units being developed are apartments which will cater to more transient residents. Some of these apartments will be renting for up to $4,000 per month which will most likely not attract young families which is what the city wants. 

The mayor also brought up that there will be a new transportation measure coming before voters in the next year that could provide the funds for a light rail system to connect the Orange and Red lines (Pasadena and North Hollywood) with two stops in Glendale.

There was a lot of dissension among the residents at the meeting towards the mayor and city council for allowing this kind of "irresponsible" development to happen.

Residents also asked the Mayor and Steve Zurn who was also in attendance about the Glendale water rate hikes as well as the Scholl Canyon Landfill. There were really no satisfactory or definitive answers coming from the city on either topic. The landfill expansion continues to be evaluated but nothing concrete has been discussed.

GOCHA also awarded Mark and Veronica Tharp with its annual resident appreciation award for all that they have done for our community, most notably organizing the annual dog parade and being great neighbors. Congratulations Mark and Veronica!
