Glenoaks Canyon Residents Evacuated

On Saturday 12/27 many residents in our canyon were evacuated from their homes from around 9:00 PM to 2:30 AM due to the discovery of the second car rented by Bruce Jeffrey Pardo (the Santa Claus Killer) parked on Glenoaks Blvd.  The car was parked in the 2300 block of Glenoaks Blvd. near Tryon. For those nearby, it was a very unsettling and unexpected experience. While it turned out that there was nothing dangerous in the car, it was our diligent canyon neighbors that called police about the vehicle which had been suspiciously parked there for some time. Police Report

According to the Glendale News Press, a Burbank man reported on Wednesday that his truck was burglurized in the 2800 block of E. Glenoaks Canyon. A golf club, watch, a pair of sunglasses, a backpack, and some perscription medication were taken.

Anne Ward Tree Dedication

On Tuesday, December 16 at 9:30am a tree will be planted in our canyon in memory and honor of Anne Ward. This was arranged through Glendale Beautiful. Anne Ward was a long time canyon resident and a dedicated GOCHA board member. The donated Arbor Day tree is a 24 inch-box Ginkgo. A photographer will be available to take a picture. The tree will be planted at the Scholl Canyon Golf and Tennis Complex, near the tennis courts.

Welcome to the new GOCHA website

On behalf of the GOCHA board, I would like to personally welcome you to our new website. I have created the site to act like a blog that will have the latest and greatest information, as it happens, about our canyon. Everyone visiting the site can add comments to each post enabling us to create a dialog about specific events and happenings in and around our community. I will continue to add information and functionality to the site as we go along. The site will only be as good as we, the community want to make it. I encourage everyone reading this to add comments, email me ideas for topics so that we can continue to build and make this a great site.

Ghouls Night Out

This past Halloween, canyon trick or treaters received an extra something special when local residents and a generous contribution from GOCHA allowed for a stretch of Hollister Terrace between Edwards and Tryon to be closed to automobile traffic, making this popular area safe for our youngest goblins and super heroes to ply their candy grabbing skills. In addition, magic shows and costume contests rounded out the festivities making this past Halloween one of the most memorable in some time.

Pancake Breakfast/Clubhouse Dedication

There was much fun and fanfare at this year's Pancake Breakfast as the mayor and city council joined us to dedicate our newly refurbished clubhouse. Even the dogs were excited. [gallery=1]

GOCHA Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of the Glenoaks Canyon Homeowners Association was held in the newly refurbished Joe Bridges Clubhouse.  This meeting is a time to inform canyon neighbors about GOCHA's ongoing activities as well as hold the annual election of officers. Mike Hoppert, Carol Kemp, Larry Meyer, Mitchell Rubinstein and Renay Wallace were re-elected to the Board.  A Community Recognition Award was presented to Bonnie and Frank Tortorelli in recognition of their years of service to GOCHA and to Canyon residents since their relocation to their Hollister Terrace residence in 1965.

The evening's keynote speaker, Dave Ahern, Capitol Projects Manager for the City of Glendale's Park and Recreation Department, addressed the topic of recent improvements to Glenoaks Park.  Originally the improvements to the clubhouse were to only involve an upgrade to the restrooms to make them accessible to the handicapped. A number of significant structural challenges were encountered which resulted in an almost complete renovation of the clubhouse.  Mr. Ahern's involvement in this project enabled him to describe these upgrades in detail.  He also discussed the new playground equipment as well as what happened to the Caretaker's House and why.

The meeting adjourned at 8:40 and was followed by refreshments.
