Annual GOCHA Meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 7:30pm at the Joe Bridges Clubhouse at Glenoaks Park.
Come join GOCHA for our annual meeting where we will discuss topics concerning Glenoaks Canyon. A representative from the Glendale Fire Department will also be there to discuss fire safety for our neighborhood and fill us in on the details of the August 4th fire in our canyon.
An annual event that Glenoaks Canyon residents look forward to each spring is the Annual Dog Parade, otherwise known as the “Bow Wow Pow Wow.” This fun filled, canine friendly event took place this year on Saturday, May 30th and was organized by Glenoaks Canyon’s Number One Couple: Mike and Jen Hoppert who have been in charge of the Dog Parade since 2004.
Previously the event was organized by Glenoaks Canyon’s other Number One Couple: Sharon Lee and Don Rector. Besides the Parade itself which was led by Officer McGruff, other highlights of the day included prizes for the Best Costume, Best Dog Trick and Fastest Time on the Obstacle Race. The “Outstanding Community Member” Award was presented to GOCHA President, Joan Morris. In attendance were the heroes of Glenoaks Canyon: the courageous Firefighters of Fire Station 25 and their Captain, JoAnne Davis. They arrived in their beautiful red fire engine and let anyone interested climb aboard and take a look. Mike Hoppert once commented that his and Jen’s aim in hosting this event was to make the event kid oriented and pet centered. Once again, the Hopperts achieved their goal. Thank you, Jen and Mike Hoppert, for all your hard work and enthusiasm which make the Bow Wow Pow Wow so much fun and so successful!

August 4th, 2009 was certainly a scary day for all of us in Glenoaks Canyon. After getting a call at work from my wife that our canyon was on fir
e and having to hike up to our house from Harvey, I thought the worst.
Thanks to all the brave firefighters and helicopter pilots that fought the blaze, all our homes are safe. I will post more photos and add more to this post later. I saw a lot of canyon residents with cameras. If you have any photos from yesterday, please email them to me (mitchellr3@gmail.com) so that we can create a visual archive of this event.
Again, on behalf of GOCHA, we are so thankful that everyone is safe and that no homes were destroyed in the fire.
On Thursday, July 30th at 7:00 PM, Shakespeare by the Sea will be performing at Glenoaks Park for the third year in a row. This year's performance will be "Love's Labour's Lost". As in previous years, seating is on the lawn so please bring folding chairs or blankets to sit on. Admission is free. Refreshments (candy, chips, snacks, etc) will be available for sale. Participants are invited to bring their own food and drink as well.

This year marks Boy Scout Troop 125's 70th anniversary. The troop has met continuously in Glenoaks Canyon since 1938.
The troop would like to invite all our scouters, past and present, along with our local community, to celebrate this milestone with us on Wednesday, June 17th at 7pm at the Joe Bridges Clubhouse for our Spring Court of Honor and ice cream social.
Troop 125, first chartered in 1938 as Troop 25, has met continuously (except during last year's renovation) at the Joe Bridges Clubhouse at Glenoaks Park. Come join us as we celebrate our past along with our future!!! For more information, click here for our 7oth-anniversary-flyer-invite.

It’s spring time again here in our lovely canyon and you know what that means!!! It’s time for the annual Bow Wow Pow Wow!!!! A.K.A. : The Dog Parade!!!!
All those hours of hard work and training you and your dog have been putting in are about to pay off! It’s time for you to bring your pooch down to Glenoaks Park on Saturday May 30th for the big day! At 9:30 am, you and your fuzzy-faced friend will get to walk in the parade while showing off the award winning dog costume you’ve been sewing together all winter. Don’t forget to wear your matching one because you’ll be modeling your costumes to a panel of choosey judges! Best costume wins a ribbon and prize!
Then you two will have the stage to dazzle the crowd with your amazing pet tricks. The competition is always tough for this one, but your dog is probably the smartest dog in the world, after all. We’ll see what the judges say about it.
Finally, the event everyone has been training for since last spring….The Agility Course! You’ll be standing proud when your super star K9 tip toes over the beam, runs fast as lightning through the tunnel and zigzags perfectly through the flags for the best time! Of course you and your pet will take the blue ribbon home for all the events! 2nd and 3rd places will go to your neighbors and their dogs!
With all this dog excitement, don’t forget the rest of your family! We’ll have the finest artists in Glendale doing face painting for the kiddies. Free balloons will be given out to all who hold still long enough to be painted. And that will be a feat in itself after your kids gobble down the complimentary sweets and juice! For the grown-ups, we’ll even spring for coffee and donuts! There will be treats for all, especially for the dogs!
Lastly, we’ll recognize an outstanding community member for all their hard work in helping make our neighborhood as great as it is. You could be the recipient of this honor!
Please! Don’t forget the leashes and plastic bags…..you know why.

This Wednesday, February 11th from 7-9am there will be curbside recycling of all aluminum and plastic cans and bottles in front of Glenoaks Elementary. Even if you don't have kids at the school, your plastic bottles and cans are gladly welcome. Proceeds benefit the students. On Tuesday, December 16 at 9:30am a tree will be planted in our canyon in memory and honor of Anne Ward. This was arranged through Glendale Beautiful. Anne Ward was a long time canyon resident and a dedicated GOCHA board member. The donated Arbor Day tree is a 24 inch-box Ginkgo. A photographer will be available to take a picture. The tree will be planted at the Scholl Canyon Golf and Tennis Complex, near the tennis courts.
This past Halloween, canyon trick or treaters received an extra something special when local residents and a generous contribution from GOCHA allowed for a stretch of Hollister Terrace between Edwards and Tryon to be closed to automobile traffic, making this popular area safe for our youngest goblins and super heroes to ply their candy grabbing skills. In addition, magic shows and costume contests rounded out the festivities making this past Halloween one of the most memorable in some time.

There was much fun and fanfare at this year's Pancake Breakfast as the mayor and city council joined us to dedicate our newly refurbished clubhouse. Even the dogs were excited. [gallery=1]
