Rabid Bat Advisory
We have been notified by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, that a bat tested positive for rabies near the Glen Oaks/Fair Oaks Community of Glendale. The bat was reported on August 30, 2019.
Please see advisory here.
Although bats are the major animal species that carry rabies in Los Angeles County, only a very small percentage (1-2%) of bats in nature have rabies. Every year bats are tested positive for rabies throughout Los Angeles County. Please see: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/vet/rabiesmap2019.htm
This website contains step by step instructions for residents if a bat is found inside their home: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/vet/batinhouse.htm
If residents own dogs or cats, they should make sure their pets are up to date with their rabies vaccination.
